While your tongue might be in your cheek,  the original famousfamily may
very well have been matriarchal.   The Texas frontier was a tough place and
you needed someone very strong at home while the males were off the
homestead.

My great,  great grandmother stared down a Pawnee hunting party in the
1860's in Eastern Nebraska.   They settled for eggs and bacon and went
about their business.
