While I have not spoken with Eli directly, my Leica rep. did contact him
yesterday.

Some of you might know that he lives in Battery Park City, which is a little
too close to comfort to the happenings. My rep. said he saw the second plane
hit! Probably the building is far enough away to not have sustained too much
damage, but possibly some.

I have heard on the news that the residents of BPC were evacuated to NJ. A
good guess is that no one there will be returning there tonight.

I don't know Eli all that well, but in the dealings I have had with him he
was always a gentleman and I wish him well.

I doubt you will be able to phone him until at least later in the week is my
guess.

On another photographic note, a former customer of mine was a photo agency
called "Unit." Much like many small NYC businesses the owner lived in the
back of the loft office. I haven't been able to reach the owner yet and I am
only hopeing they got out in time as they were pretty much at the base of the
tower. Many of you who like fashion photography would undoubtedly have seen
much of the photography they handle and it was all quality work.

Just to get a Leica-like topic in here.:

I got a call from the distributer of Erwin Putts new book, The Leica Lens
Compendium, and ironically (after months of waiting) they finally shipped a
load to me yesterday. Now the only question is, did they need to get on a
plane to get to me? I guess after this long wait another few days won't be
too bad nor the worst of my problems.

bests,
Rich
