It is advisable to update. You will be forced to when some program you
depends on uses something 11 has that 10 does not.
It is quite easy and at this point the bugs are worked out. Do it.

Tom?s computer is older. One of the requirements of the upgrade is a cpu
that is at least a generation 7 (?). His is most likely older. There is a
workaround that upgrades his computer  to a specific version called Server
that does not have this requirement. I used it for about 2 years without a
single problem. I suggest you upgrade his computer as well.
