It was then the largest base in the nation, and then as now, home to Bombers. Then they were still B-29 aircraft with their nose art from WW2, I think they still painted B-47 Jet Bombers, but not to the same extent. B-52 bombers had nose art still, and during Vietnam War the practice flourished It was phased out in 1993 and painting depicting women ended. Now nose art must be "distinctive, symbolic, gender neutral, intended to enhance unit pride, designed in good taste," and abide by copyright and trademark laws. You still see it on A-10 Warthogs, mostly as sharks teeth. Somewhere in my Dad?s stuff I have a bunch of snaps he did of the airplanes he took in England during WW2.
