Even small countries need to register trade marks, patents, designs etc. And some small countries are very innovative, like the Nordic countries (Finland with 5 million and Denmark with just under 6 million are some of the most innovative countries in the world). And of course companies from other countries who want to do business in a country like Latvia need to protect their rights there too. All the big brands are just as present in Latvia as anywhere else. The small size of the economy is reflected in the small size of the patent office, just 70 employees, making it even more impressive that they are able to organize an event like this.
