I spent a couple of days in Antwerp last week, attending a conference, but
also doing some sight-seeing. Despite having lived in Brussels (50 km from
Antwerp) for 5 years, I have surprisingly little knowledge of the city;
until last week I had only visited it on 2-3 occasions, and never spent the
night there. Better late than never?Antwerp turned out to be a great place
to visit, in many ways there is more to see than in Brussels. My hotel was
next to the cathedral, so of course I visited it?a fantastic place with
several works by Rubens. And the main art museum of Antwerp is one of the
best, most thoughtfully curated art museums I have ever visited. Other
enjoyable places included several bars, including one populated by several
cats in addition to the stray humans. The gallery is quite long, but that is
because I included many works from the art museum.
