Today's small cars are fairly safe, but in the 50s, hell no! I like big cars because I get claustrophobic in small ones. For years I drove a Ford Crown Victoria, a gigantic body-on-frame car with a V8 engine. They were indestructible and so roomy. I drive a Cadillac CTS now, which is a large car by today's standards, but it would have been called a midsize when I was younger. It took me months to get used to driving a car that was so "small!"
