Correct. The design originally was to have been a spot meter, but tests
showed that users had difficulty using it, so it was changed to a
center-weight TTL meter, one of the first around.

The change came too close to production, and the camera shells and much of
the advertising was already directed to "Spotmatic" so the name stuck.

I bought my first one from Asahi Camera Company in Yokohama, and my father
bought a second for me at the BX at Tan San Nuitt AFB, Vietnam.

Both came with goop over the Asahi Pentax nameplate to clear customs, as
Honeywell was the vendor for Pentax back then.

These were my first SLR cameras. and I used them from 1966 until I
switched to Nikon for work in 1972.

I sold my Pentax kit to the Haydel Brothers, famous for introducing filled
King Cakes to New Orleans.
