So, not so straightforward as the directions would have me believe?

Put in Disc
Follow directions
Done.

I have the same problem, and would like to network to my printer......maybe
20-25 feet.

Is prayer your best suggestion?

Frank Filippone, who always hated networking stuff because it makes no
sense......

I am. My 3800 is too far from my computers for a USB connection, and the
network connection is much faster (when it works).

I had a lot of trouble with an early-rev 3800 and a network connection, but
when after 4 exchanges I finally got a current-rev model, it has worked
flawlessly ever since.

The Epson tech support people are absolutely clueless about the network
connection. They have no idea how to debug it. I have learned a fair bit
about how to debug it, but some of what I have learned requires eye of newt
and tongue of dog.
