What always cracked me up in 47th was the attitude - "whaddaya want?" Dump
camera on counter. "Vell, da ya vant it or not? Der's pipples vaiting!"
I wasn't aware of 47th when I lived in NY, but when I moved to D.C. a
(Jewish) friend of mine told me about this great place in NY he called Photo
Chews - 47th St! :-)

I remember them all from my misspent adolescence. In those days, about the
only way you could glimpse at lots of neat used equipment was to window shop
along 32nd street. Bought some of my first 8mm movie equipment at Olden
Camera--remember "Walk Up and Save"?

Jim,

Yes, I remember them. They were on the "Diamond Street" right across
the street from the Jewelry
Exchange, between 5th and 6th avenues. I did business with them in the
1950's.

I usually dealt with the stores on 32nd Street. Olden, Willoughby, Penn
Camera, and Photoshop.

Jerry
