The D300 seems to have quite a few uprated features that would make 
it more attractive than the D200:

100% viewfinder - hooray!!!
higher sensitivity
self cleaning sensor
huge increase in display quality
live view with different focussing options
increased jpeg buffer (RAW unknown)
uprated AF system
12Mp
UDMA support
14bit processing

Seems a substantial upgrade. If I were into Nikon DSLR's, I'd be interested.
