Benjamin,
I have both lenses. The Summicron has sharp detail surrounded by a ring of
softness until F4 by which time is it sharpens up, although contrast never
gets high at any aperture.  The Elmarit is sharp wide open throughout the
center two thirds of the image and is sharp across the field by F4.
Contrast for the Elmarit is moderately high wide open to very high by 5.6.
Choose your lens by the effect you want on the film or sensor.  Personally,
I use the elmarit most of the time.
