On Dec. 29, a photography site in Spain called Caborian.com ran what it
called an April's Fools item in Spanish {see its dec. 29 posting} saying
that in
Spain the equivalent of April fools is celebrated on Dec. 28 and that "on
Caborian we wanted to maintain the tradition, publishing false news of the
merger of Canon and Leica." Here is the Dec. 29 posting...[it does not
mention
Asahi Shimbun].

En Espa?a el equivalente al April fools, se celebra el 28 de Diciembre, y
en
Caborian.com hemos querido mantener la tradici?n, publicando una noticia
falsa, la de la fusi?n de Canon y Leica ;)
What's missing from Caborian, apparently, is what was its Dec. 28 posting.
It cannot be found at Caborian and Caborian does not permit non-registered
searchers.
Next, PhotographyWeblog --saying it passed along the Spanish "rumor" by
running its own rumor in a Dutch-language version...
Then Jancology picked up the Dutch version and ran its own version in
English...
Thus, it's just a December April Fools joke from a Spanish photography web
side... some joke! regards, bob cole
