However, I have seen tigresses chasing leopards go 5-7 metres up a tree trunk through sheer momentum, but when they stall, they just fall off! A male tiger is so massive that even this is impossible. Cats, however, have taught leopards to climb trees extremely efficiently - their neck muscles are so strong that they can carry prey of 100-125kg, roughly equal or slightly more than their own weight, vertically up a tree for safekeeping! They are acrobatically agile on trees, which is their safe refuge from bigger carnivores: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/wildtravel/EAfrica/Tanzania+2012/ Lionesses frequently climb trees in East Africa - they are lighter than tigresses so manage to do it: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/wildtravel/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140311_3133.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/wildtravel/EAfrica/Masai+Mara/20080910-1544.jpg.html Cheers Jayanand On Thu, Aug 14, 2025 at 9:52?PM Lluis Ripoll via LUG <lug at leica-users.org> wrote: > Hi Jayanand, > > Nice image of this big cat! ?.I've heard that in India they say, "The only > thing the cat hasn't taught the tiger is how to climb a tree."
