I use the sky replacement now and then - in fact I started using Skylum
Luminar because of this feature - they were a couple of years ahead of
everyone else in offering this feature.
The sky does not have to be very obvious or intrusive to work wonders - and
I find it works better in architecture photographs than other subjects.
Like HDR, it is a definite case where less is more, where all we need is
some detail in an otherwise empty and flat negative space. Here are a few
that I added a bit of sky to, as examples of the way I use sky replacement.
The last two shots, from 2007, are unusual in the sense that they are taken
with film, scanned and digitized, after which the sky was added in post
processing:
