Does the actual composition of black laser printer toner powder vary from model to model? I'm asking because... I recently replaced my 7 year-old Brother home laser printer because the drum wore out. At that point, it seemed reasonable to buy a new printer, which was not much more expensive than a drum kit. This left me with a nearly new OEM toner cartridge for it. The new replacement printer, of course, takes a different cartridge. My question is, would it be OK to empty the old toner cartridge into a suitable bottle and transfer it into the new printer cartridge, which is now saying "Toner Low." That might be less hassle than selling the old cartridge. Old printer: Brother HL-5470 DW.? Cartridge: TN750 (3000 pages) New printer: Brother HL-L2460 DW.? Takes cartridges TN830 (1200 pp) or TN830XL (3000 pp) There are several other possibilities: use aftermarket toner powder in my OEM cartridge, buy an aftermarket "compatible" cartridge, or just suck it up and pay Brother's high prices. --Peter
