Books are really a collectors item nowadays, and will get priced as such
when new. Not unlike a film camera, a mechanical watch or a fountain pen.
You have to have a passion for the object to acquire them, the practical
aspects be damned!

I gave away my library (not sold, but distributed, free) of 15,000
paperbacks about 10 years ago. It was taking too much space, and not
getting used at all. I figured that it was better to distribute it around,
mainly to school, college and club libraries, so others benefit at least.
Besides, the replacement cost in a digital format was so inexpensive that I
could do that whenever I wanted.

Cheers
