Yes, the carrots were sentient, and their worst fears were realised. BTW, the four bottles of TCP - an antiseptic I keep handy after a bout of cellulitis - signify "Thirteen Carrots Panic" which just might be the title of my new novel :-) I couldn't find a fifth bottle as a better hint...
