Every Thursday for almost two years, I took the train from the Yokosuka
Naval Base to the Stars and Stripes office in Tokyo to check the proofs for
the Seahawk, the weekly magazine at the Yokosuka Navy Base.

If you weren?t in a hurry, a pleasant part of the journey was to get off
the train at the Shimbashi station and take the trolly that ran to Roppongi
near the Stars and Stripes office.

In 1966, the fare was 5 yen. At that time, the exchange rate was 360 yen
to the dollar. That made the fare about 1.39 cents ? a decided bargain.
