I got confused!  Of course the Olympus 35 DC rangefinder is indeed a 
rangefinder, not a zone-focus camera. I even focused using the rangefinder.  
My friend also gave me an old Olympus Pen (first model) and that is 
zone-focus only.

So the RF on the OLY DC seems to be out.  I'll give it a test with the 
boring old tape-measure.  If the RF is out, I doubt it is worth the cost of 
a repair, but I would ask Oly for a quote anyway.
