[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]To me the decision was: was the M8 worth $5000 when it came out?
It was, to me because the RD-1 did not appeal to me and there was nothing
else.
When I had the chance to buy a $3500 mint M8, I took the opportunity
to buy a second body. Great.
The M8.2 had one feature which I was somewhat attracted to (the
sapphire glass) and was maybel willing to spend $100 for and two
retrograde steps, so I passed on that.
The M9 has one noticeable advantage over the M8, and that is of
course the larger sensor which at this point is worth maybe
$1500-$2000 to over the M8. It is also slightly slower, which really
annoys me. Take away $500 of what I'm willing to pay.
That's my current accounting, and while I reserve the right to change
my point of view on this, at the moment the value of an M9 doesn't
come close to the price premium I would have to pay.
Before I had a day with one, I was considering ordering the camera,
and if it had been in a store, I might have picked one up. After
using it that day, I adjusted my perceived value of it. At the same
price as an M8, I would rather have an M9. At a premium of $4-5000
it's not close.
