It sounds to me like there is some interference in the mechanism. Sort of
like a piece of dust that got stuck in the mechanism
Did you try to jiggle the arm by using your finger to move it back and
forth?
In any event, it should go to Leica for a look.....

All, the problem is the RF swing arm (the part that holds the little
roller). Not the frame selector.
Never had a problem like this on my film M's. And to think, this isn't even
an electrical or "new fangled" part of the M8. Surely they should have
gotten this part right; it is a 52 year old design.
