the E1 is 5mega and the M8 10mega, so pixel for pixel, the M8 is very light

Just back from Paris lugging this around:

My SLR kit covering the same++ fields of view:
Olympus E-1 660
Zuiko 14-54/2.8-3.5 435

Weights in grams.
I have a couple more Zuiko lenses for the E-1 plus a battery holder, so I
could probably make it heavier than the Leica kit if I wanted to, but Leicas
are no lightweights.
On the other hand, Paris is the spiritual home of the M series, so you have
to take it.
