tripod mounting with my M4. I use it both for taking the strain off the top
of the camera with shoe type flash and convenience for it has two tripod
mounts, one in the center of the body and the other centered behind the
lens. Both ways I feel I am protecting the camera from OOPS!!!

Sorry, it was late, however, anyone who has actually read a camera manual
would understand my meaning.
I do agree that having the tripod aperture in the base plate is not a great
design.
