Normally, the blacklisting lasts only a day or two, but it can be longer. This is a real problem with bigger ISPs, because it is almost inevitable that at some point some spammer will use a large ISP to send spam. This is exactly what is happening now: my ISP at home, Planet, one of the largest Dutch ISPs, is currently blocked by Gene's ISP and by Comcast (so my mails to among others Jim Shulman are currently bouncing). In the case of mchsi.com, I have particularly bad luck--after I saw that my ISP's mail server was being blocked, I logged on to the mail server at my office and re-sent my message from there, but as it happens, that mail server is also blocked by mchsi! Perhaps Gene's ISP just does not like any mail coming from Dutch IP addresses... Spam is annoying, but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
