Howard,
         I have not replied as I do not consider myself an apple 
expert, but, my M8 downloads photos without removing the card.  I 
suspect that your problem is with Aperture.  Since I loaded 
Lightroom, my dng's do not load into iPhoto as they did before 
Lightroom.  They load into Lightroom just fine.  Certainly a card 
reader is great, but if you have taken just a few photos, it is a lot 
easier to connect the camera to the computer and download in a few seconds.
