I haven't done the full suite of tests myself either, but I've seen
the tests that other people have done, and some have done a very
thorough job, including graphing the resulting noise profiles. It
seems fairly conclusive. Thereafter I did a quick test, and sure
enough, the noise went up from 800 to 1000, but thereafter seemed to
stay the same at 1250 and 1600. Since then I haven't used
intermediates much.
