[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]You have motivated me to get Das Boot out of the cupboard and watch again.
Wasn't there another submarine movie where the U boat commander does the
obligatory dive to near crush depth with the scary creaks and groans from
the hull. Then he turns to a crew member and says something like "They build
them good in Germany, eh Hans?"
In a desperate attempt to rescue this from OT, that makes me think of the
Leica RFs as well.

I'm not sure abou the great anti-war film but it's certainly the best
submarine film every made.
Absolutely first-rate in all respects. Amongst the submarine communit
it is very highly regarded.

Folks, pardon the basic question.
I'm looking at getting an inexpensive 135mm for occasional use on my M6 .85.
I've read a little but am still unsure on some mechanics regarding which
ones have the detachable mount or require the viso? system.
Herr Putt's review of the f4 Elmar 135 has nary a word on any adaptor
requirement.
The lens I have inquired about is currently in our FS from a member in
Singapore.
It's listed as M mount. I have no idea as yet regarding whether it works
normally on my M or requires the adaptor system.
Thanks for setting me straight
Cheers

The long promised late-afternoon rain appeared just as I got out of a
cab at W44th and 6th. I sat on a standpipe under cover of the
entrance to the Wall Street Journal and shot rain pictures as I
waited for my son and his wife across the street from the restaurant
where we were to meet.
Three variations on a theme:

All shot at ISO 400 in color with my GRD; two converted to B&W in PS.
Comment, as you wish.

Totally an opinion here, but I think the best solution
for an occasional-use 135 is to get an LTM to M
adaptor, and go to the auction site and look for an
old Canon Serenar. It'll be break-your-back heavy, but
wonderfully sharp, sturdy, and inexpensive. Check out
the old LTM Nikkors too. You can usually pick up a
nice one for US$80-90; or at least I did 2 years ago.
Check out Gandy's site in the screw-mount users lens
guide.

Among the cognoscenti, there is only finger-rolling, all else is folly. :-)

Arche,
Dante Stella was referring to a 35/1.8 lens and yours is a 50/1.8. These are
two totally different lenses. Could you please clarify?

Last chance before I put it up for auction. This is
the 2nd version of this great lens, not the chrome
Serenar. On his site, Dante Stella said he couldn't
see a difference between this lens and the 1st rigid
Summicron.
http://www.dantestella.com/technical/canoleic.html
This lens is in gorgeous condition (Jpegs if you're
interested), comes with a Canon uva filter, a very
nice 3rd party hood, and front & rear caps. $275. I'd
much rather see this lens go to one of you guys than
some shmo, and I need to pay for the M6 TTL 0.58 I
just bought.

The film is unique, particularly in the five-hour version, in it's
depiction of true wartime heroism and the futility of the effort for
the heros.
