Henning,
With all that said, Canon was having great good fun shooting a model by
candlelight at PMA.  They were using an 85 F1.2 to some pretty good
results.  Shutter speeds ran about 1/15 to 1/30 so some hand shake
showed in some shots.

My point is that on the full frame 1Ds MKII the fall off isn't as big a
deal, especially with telephoto lenses.

Regarding the recent discussion about fast lenses not having linear 
response re: their f/stops, and acting like slower lenses, here is a 
recent discussion on dpreview on the issue. Conclusions are similar 
to the ones voiced here.
