Cost of Living was very low, but my income was as a Junir Lecturer at the University was even lower. I taught programming at a commercial school two nights a week -- that paid more than my full-time day job. My camera was an Aires Reflex (6x6) that cost, I think, about $45 -- and that was a stretch for me at the time I bought it. I still have it, and it works pretty well.
