But what is the fun and challenge in that?? Ham radio requires a bit of
skill and personal operating technique. Chatting on the internet requires
only a computer and a server. Sort of the difference in using a Leica M
versus a Kodak Point and Shoot.

Or you can just login to a server on IRC (or ICQ, AIM, MSN, etc.) and chat
with anyone in the world. No license, no antenna, no transmitter, no
worries about sunspots or bad reception. Hook up a microphone at both ends
if you actually want to hear their voices (I don't).
