Although I use the Leica almost exclusively, I also own Canon Eos, an old
Nikon FE2, three Hasselblads, 2 RB67s, a beautiful Mamiya C330 and a
Seagull. (Plus a bunch of P&Ss that sit on the fridge for the family's use)
I don't use them because they are all too heavy/bulky/slow etc, for the
style of portraits I do. I have an aversion to tripods. I would be unable to
capture the "essence" of a family if I were to continually fiddle with a
tripod. I went out to two weddings with two photographer friends recently
and while they were fixed to one spot using a tripod, (usually with their
knees straight) I was able to move around and shoot, from various heights,
what was really happening. I would rather lose a shot ot movement every now
and then than to lose the entire wedding to boredom.

Tripods should be banned! Take the tripod socket off the Leica!

As for the puddle jumper, I had her jump over a mark on the sand and
prefocussed. Besides, when I use the Eos, I am not REALLY sure that the
focus was on the girl and not the background. Things happen so fast when a
little girl is in midair!
