Uh engraved on the lens...ie  "Made in Japan". Leica for good reason from a
marketing perspective break out lenses by vendor. Laney's 1994 book Leica
Guide (Citizens Photo in Portland 503 232 8591 had a couple last time I was
in) lists who made the lenses (up to that date).
