Alan - While you are of course correct that individual
terrorists cannot be rooted out or eliminated by a
massive military response, I believe that such a
response will definitely serve to reduce if not
eliminate the willingness of certain nations to give
safe harbor to these madmen. The mewling of the
Taliban - show us proof and we'll give you Bin Laden -
is already an indication of how such a policy might
work. The Taliban realize that what happened at the
Trade Towers could look like an end of summer
fireworks display compared to what may come down on
their heads. Our friend Kadhafi (sp) has reportedly
largely gotten out of the terrorism business after it
became clear to him that he wouldn't have much of a
country left if he stayed in it. And, it goes without
saying that if there are clear ties between the NY
bunch and Bin Laden, AND it can be shown that Bin
Laden and his networks are getting support from Sadam,
there is absolutely no question that it is time to
finish the business that was left very much unfinished
during the Gulf war.

I understand that you have military experience.
Interestingly, however, almost every case of
"terrorism" you site is war fought by victims of
colonial oppression. (No, I am not defending the IRA
or the Protestant terrorists of Northern Ireland, who,
at this point, clearly deserve each other, and, in
MHO, should be left by Britain to their own devices to
destroy each other.)

Sorry, but that's the way I see things. And I would
politely suggest that I am no more blinded by anger
than you are by your world-view - which, based on the
last section quoted, is quite clearly anti-Israel and
pro-Palestinian. You and I both know that had Isreal
gone along with those UN resolutions, there would be
no Israel today. (And I am not, for a nano-second,
supporting in word or dead Israel's violation, within
its borders, of its Arab citizens). True, my suggested
response will not completely eliminate terrorism - but
yours will only encourage it.
