Nathan,

It is true in that if you don't set the shutter speed dial to "off," you
risk draining the battery should the shutter release be pressed by anything
in your camera bag (especially true if you use a softie).

Out of habit, I always set the shutter to "off" when I put the camera away
and have never had a problem.
