Martin, just bounce the lights off white card with the strobes on manual.
Measure the light as usual. To get rid of those specular highlights you
really need to bathe the object in diffuse light. Alternatively, put a white
sheet between to light stands and fire the strobe through that from about
2-3 feet so that the whole sheet becomes the light source. Works great.
