Hopefully, any new AF lenses will also be usable on the older bodies in
manual focus mode.

IF Leica does, and according to the local Leica rep. it's coming in less
than two years, it will be able to use the old lenses in focus
confirmation. Leica's not always at the forefront of technological
innovation, but they are pretty savvy on what makes sense. The R8 is such a
wonderful camera, in spite of a few things, that I could see it staying
pretty much the same with AF circuits added. I'd buy it.
