How about streamlining the use of mirror lockup with the builtin timer?
If you have the camera strapped to a tripod and wish to use the handy
self-timer as a pseudo-cable-release, the steps are something like:
[with the MLU switch already flipped]
(1) press the shutter to flip up the mirror;
(2) push a little button on the back a few times to select the appropriate
self-timer setting;
(3) press the shutter release again and wait for the shutter to go off.
This just feels clunkier than it sounds when you're doing it several times in
a row. Ideally, there'd be a mode whereby, once in that mode, you'd:
(1) press the shutter button.
The camera would:
(1) flip up the mirror;
(2) wait an appropriate length of time for the vibrations that induced to die
down;
(3) activate the shutter.
