You left out the thread about the use of an Leica SL2 captured along with an
American U-2 plane by the Soviets several years ago. Apparently while
photographing the terrain, the reflections off the special Lietz glass was
noticed by the Soviets who promptly captured the plane. The Soviets then
forced him to use non-Leica gear until he finally broke down and confessed
he once owned a Ni**n camera. They eventually exchanged him and the U2
plane for a Leica M3 and R6.2 with several Leica lenses. All agreed it was
a fair trade. (I better use a few ;-] :-))

You know, it's funny how everyone wants to bring up the "charter"
of this list (NONE of the lists "reflect" the charter after a year
or two-- except the Collins radio list run by that nazi bastard)
BUT-- they fail to note the paragraph about how the list is mainly
geared to "rangefinder (real-) leicas"....and their enthusiasts....
Everyone to his own opinion (none of you have problems sharing them
with ME) BUT----
I'm MUCH more offended by the R-leica posts (any) than all the
underwear, scotch, and FS/drivel combined......(note lack of smileys)
Leica "R" history:
1964-1978 -- built mediocre, clumsy,heavy, ungodly complicated
SLRs...with good lenses
1977-8? -- sold (slightly) modified, mediocre, Minoltas that cost
4x minolta prices with lenses as good as Minolta for
6X the price
198?-date--built/build mediocre, clumsy, unreliable, incompatible
(motors) German SLRs, ungodly complicated....with good
lenses (even better than Minolta, since Minolta discovered
plastics and subcontractors.
1964-date -- photographers bought other (non-Leica) slrs to use
with their Leica-Ms.....bought Leica-Ms because Nikon and
Canon (seriously) underestimated the resurgence in RFDR
interest....otherwise, there would be no Leica today. Leica
will continue because the Japanese design cameras with
loads of shit on them and REFUSE to make a manual RFDR
(i.e., Contax G2) even though they know how....look at the
tons of interest that little Yasuhara or whatever you call
the damn thing....generated....and the (mythical) Hexar II.
Hehehe.....thought the list needed a little more stirring up....
BTW- Statistics 101 -- If you are a photographer that doesn't fit
the 99.5% profile defined above, you don't count. You may be a nice
guy, well dressed, donate to charity, polite to others, and a volunteer
fireman....but you statistically ain't there...sorry.
now, the :) :) :)
