With regard to the German people standing up to Hitler:
> Good samaritan laws are becoming popular these days and arm-chair
> historians like to think that if companies and the German people had
> stood up to Hitler that perhaps maybe the whole Holocaust could have been
> avoided. I think that is probably wishful thinking as it ignores factors
> of fear, brain-washing and national-pride and the control that Hitler
> had
Hitler confiscated firearms and outlawed private ownership of firearms,
except for those who followed his party line in military or party
service. So, it would seem that the German people were actually
powerless to resist. We Americans sometimes take our right to keep and
bear arms for granted; however, had the Germans civilians had the right
to keep and bear arms, one could rightly make the argument that they
were empowered to resist Hitler's domination. Without being able to
keep and bear arms, the German civilian population was powerless to
resist.
Meanwhile, I am just wondering where all of this is going. Should the
American families who suffered wrongful deaths at the hands of the
Japanese at Pearl Harbor seek reparations? Of course, any monetary
amount could not compensate the mothers and fathers who lost their
children at Pearl Harbor, and my heart goes out to them as well as all
that have been unjustly wronged and hurt throughout history. What can I
do? I hope and pray that we will learn through history to make our
future human experiences much more humane, enlightened, and kinder with
our fellow neighbors.
