The new R 35-70 f/4 does have an aspheric surface.  It has been out for a while.  I have one and it performs beautifully.  That must be what he was referring to, unless there is a faster one coming.  An f/2.8 would be nice, but really $$$ I am sure.

I was at my favorite local Leica shop when...

The sales person made mention of a new 35-70 ASPH coming from Leica!  It
does make sense, given Leica's new ASPH technology.  Has anyone heard
anything else?
