Harold,
I can't give you any estimate of the cost to replace a rear element,
but have you tried simply taking pictures with the lens AS IS? Over
the years I've had a couple of lenses with a nick or scratch on their
rear elements and have not seen any effects in the photographs (much
to my surprise!).

Subject: [Leica] Replacing lens elements

Hi all
I hope that someone can help me on this one. I have the last version non-asph
35mm Summicron which unfortunately received a nasty scratch on the rear element.
(no, I wasn't cleaning it at the time!). I replaced it with the 35mm F2.0
aspherical, but was thinking to have it fixed as a backup / second lens. Does
anybody know whether the rear element can be replaced and, if so, what does it
cost, ballpark figures ? Is it economically worth fixing or should I just use
the lens as a sort of very small nicely made precision paperweight?
Best wishes and thanks in advance
Harold Gess
