Fellow LUG's
Some time ago we had a fascinating thread about the type of grease to
use on lens focusing mechanisms. Could someone post a recap?
A '69 vintage 50mm Summicron just came my way. The focusing ring did
not move as easily as I would have liked. I did get the mounting
flange off the base and, with small amounts of lighter fluid, smooth
things out a bit. However, I am concerned that the solvent may have
removed too much lubricant.
Also, is further disassembly of this lens required for lubricating
the focusing threads or is it sufficient to apply the grease to the
portion that is exposed when the flange is removed?
One last question - is there a quick fix to securing the ring bearing
the white dot indicating the aperture setting?
