Yes Sir!
And whatever you might read about AF requiring it most and
for all: the first circulars in camera history where needed only for
the light metering argument, the argument of AF came almost a decade
later.
The risk with AF is also far less than with light metering, as you
can *see* AF go hunting in poor light/contrast conditions (the risk
is virtually non-existant in good light/contrast), whereas with the
light metering system you would have to guess how wrong your
exposure is in every occasion.
