RE: Leica alternatives

I use both.  My nikon has a plain finder with no split window.  Difference 
in focusing direction has not been a problem because the mental processes 
of focusing SLR vice RF are very different for me.
With SLR being able to see the DOF move back and forth makes me very aware 
of which direction the focus is moving.  However, with the RF, I really pay 
more attention to the right/left displacement of the RF window and not much 
about whether the point of focus is moving in or out. (I suppose you might 
say that the focusing techniques are orthogonal, or uncorellated to each 
other.)  I also preset the focus at or just beyond the hyperfocal point 
more often on the M6 and don't even bother with focus.  My Nikon AF lenses 
have sloppy focus mechanisms don't stay put if preset.

Can't say much about color cast.  I have four Nikon lenses and have noticed 
no particular color differences between them though.

In addition, I have also heard that Nikkors provide a cooler/bluer color 
cast
than Leica or Canon lenses.  I have also heard, on the other hand, that
Nikkors are more consistent color-wise than Canon lenses which are
manufactured in various parts of the far east with the resultant 
differences
in color and tone.
