[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]Hi LUG members, I am a photographer lurker on the LUG -- I want to start a project in 2017 to produce a book of collaborative photographs in as many of the 50 states as I can find photographers to participate. I can cover parts of California. At the end of 2017 I will make a book using Blurb or some method once the year is over. I do not have any support for this project: I can not offer payment for your time or money for travel, lodging and food. I am looking for photographers who want to photograph in the place where they live and states where they visit/vacations, trips etc. You retain copyright. I think 2017 is going to be a unique year. Here is my idea. Background- Earl A Powell III, director, National Gallery of Art, Washington, in his foreword to the book *Robert Frank?s The Americans Looking In* writes, "Frank looked beneath the surface of 1950's America to reveal profound issues that the country in many respects is still wrestling with to this day. He depicted a people plagued with racism, often ill served by their politicians, intoxicated with the media and celebrities, and infatuated with speed, movement and even the road itself. But he also celebrated the strengths of America's ethnic diversity, its deep religious faith and its vibrant music. Released at the height of the cold war..." *FAST FORWARD to my idea* Fast forward to a new project by photographers who look during 2017 to reveal profound issues within the United States. People plagued with opiate addiction, poverty, racism, loss of jobs, often ill served by their politicians, and intoxicated with technology, social media, fake/false news and celebrities. The photographers will also show the strengths of America's democracy, it's ethnic diversity and a country grappling with many issues including increasing global temperatures, decreasing water supplies, and worldwide social, economic and political changes. This project is about disruption and change but neither pro nor con re the Trump administration. Thanks, Karen Schreiber www.kpsphoto.com (old film website and not updated when I went to digital)
