I don't think it would be that crowded later in the day since it's a large park and there isn't that much to do there except walk around. http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=40.7463791&lon=-73.8451195&z=16&l=0&m=a&v=2 Going back there was kind of a let down. I've become accustomed to the forest parks of northern Manhattan and and farther north. When I returned to the park proper for the first time in more than twenty years, I was left wondering what I had thought was so special about it other than the old fair structures!
