Just get a glass of colored water so they'll think you're getting soused, and sit quietly in a corner mumbling and OBSERVING. I guarantee you will see things you have never seen before, in terms of interactions, poses, expressions, etc. And you will never have seen them before because you were never looking for them. I'm convinced that most of us miss the best photos of our own families because our families are so familiar to us; we really have to stop and think about what we're seeing. Then, the next time the old bat - uh, your m-i-l ;-) - comes over, take out the camera, observe, and shoot...I think you'll be more than surprised by the results. B. Good idea! Thanks BD Yes - I see your point. It makes a lot of sense. Next time my in-laws are over with all the relatives for some 'occasion' I'll have to 'look' at it as a chance to hone my people photography skills. It will be better than belting down a few just to get through it ;-) Seriously though, this is a way we can all learn. If you think about it, many pictures we see taken by "the masters" (Weston's nudes etc. etc.) or folks right here on the LUG (Sonny's photos in his home town) are of people - or places - they know about or care about deeply, some of it their best work! I love the the thought! And, Ok, I'll even try with my mother-in-law ;-) Ed > > My point is that one can chose to make what one knows best ones > > My point is that one can chose to make what one knows best ones >> best subject - take your 'best' photos of the kids, the spouse, the >> parents.
